How a Starter Motor Works？
A starter motor is a powerful electric motor designed to crank a vehicle’s internal combustion engine to initiate operation.
When you turn the ignition key or press the start button, an electrical signal activates the starter solenoid. The solenoid pushes the 9-tooth drive pinion forward to mesh firmly with the engine’s flywheel ring gear. Meanwhile, it connects the vehicle’s 12V battery to the main starter motor, delivering large electric current.
Powered by the battery, the motor spins clockwise (CW) at high torque. This rotational force drives the flywheel and turns the engine crankshaft, getting the engine running on its own.
Once the engine fires up and rotates faster than the starter, the pinion gear automatically disengages from the flywheel to avoid damage. The whole process completes in seconds, and the starter stops working until the next startup.
This PMGR (Permanent Magnet Gear Reduction) type starter uses permanent magnets and gear sets to boost torque while keeping the unit compact, efficient and quiet during operation.
